The long-awaited day is finally here: the first day of classes of the summer shore sessions at SEA! Woods Hole is so excited to welcome the next generation of oceanographers, researchers, environmentalists, and marine biologists.

Although it was raining, that didn’t stop the students from enthusiastically engaging in their morning classes. Tomorrow, good weather permitting, the students will embark on their first field trip of many to Quisset Harbor.
Expectations have been set, community is starting to be built, and passions are being explored. All that’s left is for the fun to begin!
We, the SEA Program Assistants (PAs), are excited to see how our group of students grows over this period. Like ecosystems, everyone has to work together to create an environment of harmony.

The second session of class ended with a fun activity led by Dr. Heather Page and Dr. Jackie Veatch, where the students had to place different ocean currents on the map in the Map Room in the Madden Center (see featured image above).
The PAs gathered lab materials for the first session of fieldwork tomorrow.
After class the students took a jaunt to Racing Beach. The weather was gloomy, but they still enjoyed the picturesque views from the rocky shore.
Once they came back, it was time for dinner! Chicken orzo pesto was on the menu. While there were a couple mishaps in B House, teamwork pulled us through.
The students went back up to Madden for an activity to help them get to know their peers better. Friendship speed dating was a hit for the second year in a row. Good job Activities Coordinators!
Alejandro had decided to make cookie dough earlier that afternoon, so the day ended with karaoke and warm cookies!
