About

Research Areas & Interests
Dr. Veatch’s research interests are driven by the question “How do marine ecosystems respond to the way the ocean moves?” These interests span topics in biological-physical interactions, ocean transport of plankton and pollution, physical oceanography, marine technology, food web dynamics, coastal ecosystems, and polar ecosystems.
Teaching Philosophy
My primary goal as an educator is to ignite curiosity in students and give them the confidence, skills, and independence to pursue questions that matter to them. Whether students ultimately pursue careers in research, marine technology, conservation, or another field entirely, I want them to leave my classroom able to use science as a framework for analytical reasoning, problem-solving, collaboration, and continued learning. My teaching therefore emphasizes experiential learning, guided problem-solving, and a gradual progression toward student independence.
