A Day to Remember

SEA Campus, Falmouth, Massachusetts
Today was the perfect wrap-up to a very eventful and educational week. We started early, filling up on breakfast before heading out to catch the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. We had a short debate on which side of the boat was the front before ultimately choosing the wrong side. It all worked out, and right before we took off, we got to watch and wave at the SEA Expedition kids who were embarking on their journey aboard the Corwith Cramer.

Once we got off the ferry, most of us stopped at a coffee shop where we fueled up on food before heading to the beach. We got to see all the creatures we had learned about in class this week, including brown algae, scallop shells, slipper snails, leopard crabs, and Dead Man’s Fingers. It was fun to see how our lessons translate to real-life experiences.
A group of us swam the length of the beach and quickly ran back to our towels to start a game of hacky sack. After getting covered in sand, we decided it would be the perfect time to grab another bite to eat. We stopped for burgers, and after that we got ice cream. Most of the group went shopping, but three of us went back to the beach to soak up the last few minutes of Martha’s Vineyard.

Right as we got back on the ferry, the threatening clouds finally started to rain. Now that we knew which side of the boat was the front, a group of us decided that this weather was the perfect time to experience the bow of the boat. We wrapped ourselves up and headed straight for the front, only to find that we were the only ones who cared to sit outside with the rain and wind. We sang and laughed the whole time as rain pelted across our faces and wind almost blew away our towels. Happy, soaked, and a bit cold, we laughed the whole way off the boat and into the car.
Tonight we’re looking forward to eating homemade pizza that our fellow cabin mates are cooking. After that we’ll paint frames for our evening activity and maybe squeeze in a game of spikeball.
Overall, it was a great community-building day, and I look forward to the many adventures to come throughout the next 2 weeks!
