Good Morning, yesterday was our first full day sailing. We woke up at 0600 and had breakfast which was apple oatmeal and yogurt made by Ava. Our 0700 watch was amazing; we were sailing through calm blue waters. It was a little chilly so we put on extra layers. During our watch we were blessed with some delicious cookies made by Sophie.
The science team deployed a full science station (water samples, surface plankton, sediment and secchi disc and more). The deck crew had a wonderful station rotation; they got to strike the jib which was a very invigorating experience. At 1300, B watch relieved us so we could have a delicious lunch of quesadillas. We had class at 1430 where we learned how to deploy the neuston tow net. B watch had the afternoon shift and saw a whale breaching in the distance. B and C watch then struck the Mains’l at watch changeover, where C watch took the deck.

Dinner of fish and rice was so yummy and we were famished. The science team on C watch deployed the neuston tow net to collect data for our dawn watch. Sunset was invigorating and gave way to a beautiful night sky. Sleep was desperately needed and we were having such a good rest that Kevin slept through dinner. We haven’t seen any pirates yet, but we will keep you updated!
