A pretty rough night’s sleep aboard the Corwith Cramer (Wednesday night). The stormy weather hit us hard. The waves coming from multiple angles rocking the ship back and forth in their wake. Even in my cozy bunk near the aft cabin I was nearly thrown out suddenly due what felt like a mountain hitting us. Plates falling, cutlery scattering but the storm had no sign of slowing down let alone stopping. So I laid in my bunk clutching the sidewalls until first light finally came. Unfortunately, I had to skip breakfast because my stomach felt like a washing machine. I managed to dash below deck to grab my foul weather gear before my 0700 watch started. My stomach wouldn’t let up. I had gotten under the false impression that sea sickness wouldn’t affect me because the first few days had been a breeze. Boy was I wrong. I spent the next few hours on the quarterdeck sprawled out like a rag doll until finally the sea sickness medication did its thing.

However, it seemed that after I was through with the heaving my day really turned around. I had a great lunch of a turkey sandwich and some left over pizza and was able to rest for an hour or two and read my book. I’m getting a little sad because I’m nearing the end of it and I really enjoy it. We then had class on the quarter deck which is always fun and then got into groups to discuss our projects with the science team. Then I immediately hopped right back into my cozy bunk and passed out until dinner, which was absolutely delicious.

Now that the rough weather has passed I think we all feel a sense of relief and pride after last night because other than a collective lack of sleep, we handled it really well. We’ve all gotten really close and I’m so grateful for all these new friendships and soon to be memories made.
