After our busy second week of activities and learning, today was a slow start with lots of fun. We were able to sleep in, which gave us a chance to rest before we headed to the Barnstable County Fair in the afternoon, which is one of Cape Cod’s most popular summer events. Since the weather was sunny and very hot, we made sure we stayed hydrated as we explored the rides and shows.
It was great to see a different aspect of the local community, culture, and enjoy a different experience for a day where we were out of the scientific lectures, learning and researching.

We all enjoyed ourselves in the fair with lots of excitement and fun. There were roller coasters and all sorts of amusement rides which suited both adults and children. The stalls and food trucks were colorfully decorated, with excellent food, ranging from popcorn and sweet treats to refreshing drinks. There was also a magic show, which made us hooked and stayed there until the end.
A small parade was held, enabling us to see local people coming by in colorful, creative costumes and celebrating together in a fashion that raised up the atmosphere in the fair. There was also a small-scale farm stable in the fair with various types of animals such as horses, sheep, cows and chickens, letting us learn more about the local farming and livestock raising traditions.
We also had a short fishing trip and ended the day with a Just Dance evening activity in the Madden Center.
The overall, the atmosphere of the fair was vibrant, colorful and happy. It was a lovely time for all of us to see the sights, watch the shows and spend time relaxing.
