Hello Everyone, Nate (student) here writing my first and probably only blog of the trip. It’s day 7 on the Corwith Cramer, which marks one week since we started the program. Today’s weather was quite gloomy with cold rain in the morning and night, and clouds all day. We (A watch) saw more dolphins in the distance this morning and a few of us saw a splash from a whale blowing water out! (although no one actually saw the whale.) We also saw quite a lot of shearwaters, with a final count of over 30 once our watch ended. I got to be at the helm for an hour in the freezing cold while the ship did everything in its power to not go where I wanted. Science took a bunch of samples with various equipment including, the CTD, Niskin Bottles, Shipek Grab, Secchi Disk, and Neuston Net. Congrats to Mulsy for winning the Secchi Disk bets with a guess of 8.5.
It also rained at night. It was cold. The schedule is messing with me a lot and I think we’ve all lost track of time. Also multiple people have reported strange dreams and, while on lookout, seeing things in the night sky and dark water that, on second look, are not really there. I guess staring at an endless sea for an hour straight will do that to you. Also Microsoft Excel 2010 is still half broken. The ship’s network (aside from the aft cabin’s communications system) is not connected to the internet, so we are still using Office 2010 because it doesn’t need constant internet access to function (I’m even writing this on Word 2010!). I’m really tired right now (its 3am watch) so I’m handing this off to Isaac to talk about the chaos that happened after lunch.
We have all started to feel the effects of being completely screen free for over a week now. For example, in our free time during a game of Castle, Giulia was eating saltines (weirdly according to Thomas) which prompted him to reenact her form of eating. However, this saltine was particularly dry, causing Thomas to spit some of it out, causing a chain reaction of mayhem. Giulia, who was sitting right next to him, moved sideways as fast as possible, causing Vinny to fall out of his seat. As everyone was laughing, we suddenly saw that blue Gatorade powder was all over the floor! Colin had accidentally pushed the container over the edge as he was laughing, and somehow, someway, everyone was laughing even harder than before. Meredith (one of our deckhands) appeared out of nowhere, saw what was going on, and began laughing too (then of course made us clean up after ourselves).

Lastly, hello everyone who is looking at this blog, this is Jason (Hi mom and dad). The content above are some of the highlights for today’s experiences. Apart from what is not usual for us, we still have ordinary things going on, meals for instance. We had english muffins, bacon, and eggs for our breakfast. It is not my favorite breakfast but we still enjoyed it. For lunch, we had chicken soup with rice. Although the lemon is quite strong, this was genuinely warm-hearting having a hot soup in a freezing day. And we had cheese Pizza for the dinner. I would say this is one of the best meals on ship. No worry about the food on ship, we are all eating very well on this trip (I also think we are hungrier than usual because we have our sleeping schedule thrown off since we are all having 1am watch on certain days). In addition, we also helped the Galley (Kitchen) with dishes. All of us are willing to do all kinds of chores which really kept the ship clean (I think I spent five hours doing the dishes over three days). Overall, we really had a great time these days with our shipmates. We built an intimate relationship and also, importantly, we’re looking forward to the future voyage and coming back soon!
