This afternoon, faculty and crew welcomed 24 new students to the SSV Corwith Cramer, their new home for the next six weeks.
It’s been an exciting first day onboard, and a typical fall day in Woods Hole, MA, with bright sunny skies and a brisk breeze blowing (and we mean blowing!!) in from the sea.
After brief introductions, students were assigned to their watch groups and learned from their mate and assistant scientist about general routines, customs, and particular terminology onboard the Cramer. Following a delicious dinner of make-your-own couscous bowls (so many toppings to choose from!) students continued their evening with a series of safety trainings for the galley, engine room, and lab; and all learned how to properly conduct a boat check – a tour of ship spaces making sure all is safe and sound.
A full night’s rest for the students because tomorrow we cast off the dock lines and head out to sea!
