The students aboard the SSV Corwith Cramer woke up to a foggy morning, anchored off the Isle of Shoals. The crew’s attempt to get underway was postponed by the fog, giving the students the opportunity to climb the rigging and get an aloft view of the anchor spot. We got underway once the fog cleared and began sailing towards Jeffery’s Bank. As B watch started their afternoon watch the deck and lab hands played a major role in the setting of the ships sails. The lab was very active in deploying a phytoplankton net, Secchi disk, a CTD profiler, and a Neuston net during the BEST watch’s shift. As part of the Secchi deployment, the crew placed bets on how deep the visibility would get. B Watch has won three out of four of the bets so far. The B watch deck team also assisted in sailing the Cramer into Jeffery’s Basin as the weather cleared. The students and crew not on watch were able to view a beautiful sunset and watch the marine life and birds from the quarter deck. We were all very excited to see a sunfish and several dolphins in the distance.  So far, B watch has completed all four watch times and have enjoyed their time together.

The students on B watch would like to say hi their family and loved ones:

Matthew – Hey guys, I love you all so much! Missing you all every day (especially Willow ?)

Weston- Hi mom, dad, Calla, and Finn (and Monster)!!!  I love you guys so so much!! It’s been super fun onboard and I can’t wait to tell you all about it (hint: there has been singing). Love you!!!! <3

Avery- Hi mom and dad! Say hi to the dogs for me please ? I love and miss you guys!

Katie- Hi mom and dad! I miss you and the dogs and cats, love you so so so much and see you soon.

Julia G.- With the rise of another moon, and the setting of another sun, I think on you, my dear parents. Please note that my heart is filled with love for you both, being dwarfed only by my love for Riese. For my sisters, I have mixed opinions.

Dex- Dearest family, while I miss you dearly I am having a wonderful time aboard Cramer and may never return. I will keep you all apprised of whether or not I belong to the ship. All my love.

Davanee-Dear Abankwas I miss you all, the first few days on the ship were very hard but now I’m having a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see you all in South Africa. I miss you too Dad. I miss you as well Luke, I can’t wait to call you and see your face again.

Lots of Love
