Sea Education Association (SEA) and Cape Cod Community College (4Cs) Partner to Offer College Credit for Immersive High School Summer Programs

May 15, 2026

WOODS HOLE/WEST BARNSTABLE, MA – [May 15, 2026] – The Sea Education Association (SEA) and Cape Cod Community College (4Cs) are proud to announce a new partnership granting college credit to high school students who complete select SEA summer marine science programs.

This agreement acknowledges SEA’s immersive marine science education for high school students as equivalent to college-level work and will now recognize this work on official transcripts. This dual/concurrent offering will help graduates of SEA summer programs to gain academic credit and get a head start on their higher education careers. Such credit can be applied to degree programs at 4Cs or be used as transfer credit to the college or university of a student’s choosing.

“We are thrilled to partner with Cape Cod Community College to recognize the rigorous academic work our students undertake each summer in Woods Hole, MA and the surrounding waters,” said Dr. Richard Hopper, President of SEA. “This partnership validates the high-level scientific research and maritime skills our summer students develop while studying on our campus and sailing aboard our tall ship in the Atlantic Ocean.”

Students who complete the SEA Pre-College Summer Program will be eligible to receive 3 college credits from Cape Cod Community College, marking a significant step in linking experiential, hands-on learning with formal academic achievement.

“Our partnership with the Sea Education Association perfectly aligns with our mission to provide accessible, high-quality education and career pathways,” said Dr. Carlnita Greene, Acting President of Cape Cod Community College. “By recognizing this unique, ocean-based curriculum, we are enabling local and out-of-state students to earn credit for truly exceptional scientific work.”

All SEA Pre-College programs covering oceanography and marine biology are taught by highly experienced faculty. Students in the SEA Pre-College programs also learn sea faring, navigation, and safety from SEA’s pool of expert ship captains.

SEA is still accepting applications for summer programs.  Financial aid is available.

SEA will begin offering 3 college credits for its Pre-College programs starting in the summer of 2026.
