Description of where we are sailing: Today we sailed away from Nantucket
Today we set sail from Nantucket during the morning watch. We had some
pretty stormy weather with some heavy wind and a lot of rain. Today was our
first day of full 6 hour watches which was somewhat of an adjustment to our
previous one hour anchor watches. We set plenty of sails, did our boat
checks, and took turns on helm and lookout, while others spent time in the
lab deploying our Neuston net for plankton samples. During class we had a
special surprise of some whales breaching! We also had the opportunity to
see a pod of dolphins right at our bow! When the skies began to clear up
around midday, there was a beautiful rainbow. Even though we experienced
some seasickness throughout the crew it was still a great first day at sea!
