Weather / Wind and Sail Plan: sunny/windy
Description of where we are sailing: Today we remained anchored off of Nantucket.
Today started off strong with students from each watch completing nightly
anchor watch in two hour shifts. But that quickly changed when we learned
the windless motor used for lifting the anchor was not working. None the
less we went about our day as we otherwise would while our amazing engineers
got to work resolving the problem. C watch took the morning watch on deck
while the rest of students spent time down below deck. After getting word
that we would remain anchored for the day we split into watch groups to
complete various stations including setting and striking the mains’l,
testing hclorophyll-a concentrations in the water, and learning to climb the
rigging. This was our first opportunity to climb up the mast. Following our
stations we settled down for dinner and B watch took over nightly anchor
watches. After dinner we got word that the windless motor had been fixed and
we would be able to haul in the anchor early tomorrow morning. We are all
looking forward to heading out of anchorage tomorrow morning.
