Description of where we are sailing:  Fippennies Ledge

C watch’s day started out with a bright and early “get your foul weather
gear on, there’s lightning.” Thankfully we were surprised by the morning sun
peaking through what was left of last night’s storm clouds when we got on
deck at 0700. The rest of the day was beautiful and we got on with our watch
activities. In the lab we did many scientific deployments including the
Shipek grab, a secchi disk, a CTD, And a Neuston tow. While we waited for
our Neuston net we did some dip netting as well, bringing up some floating
algae and a mid-morning snack- some salps. A couple of us ate the gelatinous
blobs which were surprisingly edible. The day continued to be fair weather
as C watch was relieved by A watch and left the rest of the day to hang out
in the head rig and catch up on sleep before an early 0100 wakeup.
