Weather / Wind / Sail Plan (from 1300 Watch Change): Consistently sunny and windy all day. Sailing by and large under the main’sl, fore and main stay’sl as well as the jib and jib topsail.
Description of Location: On the continental shelf, leaving the Rhode Island Sound
We had some very strong winds last night but it all cleared up! Everything’s in order and on track.
A Watch was up at dawn today from 01:00 to 07:00, with an opportunity to stargaze and watch the sun rise as we fulfilled our duties on watch. Some of these duties included: processing and performing counts of plankton from our various scientific deployments, and even a morning tea party (absolutely necessary!).
A Watch and B Watch teamed up to set the main’sl and, toward the end of the day, strike the fisherman’s sail. Around the end of A Watch’s night shift, they also experienced the pleasant surprise of a pod of whales surrounding the ship!
