Description of where we are sailing: Gulf of Maine, heading towards
Jeffrey’s Ledge
Today, we, the B Watch Baddies, woke up at 12:30 am for dawn watch! Half of
us were on lab, the other half on deck. In lab, we processed the Neuston
Net, did a 100 count, and finished with a science report. On deck, we
rotated through our stations, and did two gybes in order to get to
Fippennies Ledge by morning. A meteor shower throughout the night lit up the
sky and created a show! At four a.m. we had tea time, and delicious brownies
for midrats! The sun rose, and C watch took over for the morning watch. They
finished the journey to Fippennies Ledge so lab could investigate more about
this underwater mountainous region. At 1pm A watch took over for afternoon
watch, and shortly after we had class where we learned how to splice a line.
Today we saw a baby shark, as well as many birds, paired with a very clear
sky! After dinner at 7pm, the B watch baddies took over again for evening
watch! The highlight of watch was striking the Jib Topsil in the dark out on
the head rig in high winds with a storm brewing on the horizon. The sound of
the snapping sail, and lighting bolts in the distance created a rush of
adrenaline to power us through the next 3 hours of watch.
P.S. Chris Paxton, Callie says hi!
P.P.S Maya and Bridget compete and win gold in every Olympic event, but Mark
and Tomas were jealous and claimed they “didn’t believe us”.
P.P.P.S Shout out to Sophie!
P.P.P.P.S Hi Mom and Dad, Magnolia says hi!
P.P.P.P.P.S. Hi to Ali’s parents!
