Position: 40 deg N x 070 deg W
Log: 61nm
Weather Description/ Sail Plan: Cool and windy night. We have the four lower sails up.
36 nm southeast of Martha’s vineyard
This morning we woke up at 6:00 for breakfast, watches C and Others (all
staff not on watch) had first shift of breakfast at 6:20. Watches A and B
had the second shift of breakfast. Before we left the dock we did fire
drills and man overboard drills. Then we set sail! All the students helped
in setting the sails, which was very fun. We then had abandon ship drills
where we had to put on these suits called gumby suits that made us look like
lobsters. Then we had grilled cheese and tomato soup, which unfortunately
made a bunch of people sick, because we hadn’t had a meal at sea yet, and
people weren’t used to the rocking of the boat. Other than that we had
smooth sailing, with sights of sharks and dolphins! We learned how to tie
bowline knots and how to do ballantine coils.
