Weather / Wind and Sail Plan: Wind from the NNE with a Beaufort force of 3, sailing under the four lowers with a reefed main
Description of where we are sailing: Massachusetts Bay

Hello from the ship’s lab! This morning at 0050, C watch took over the Cramer from B watch. Although weather was cloudy (and occasionally rainy), it was nothing they hadn’t seen before. Driven by gingersnap cookies, hot chocolate, caffeinated tea and their then-prodigious experience with rainy watches, the deck crew pressed on. At 0630, the crew executed a tack-turning the bow of the boat through the wind √in order to stay over the shallower waters of Stellwagen Bank and have the opportunity to see pods of whales! After a long watch, C watch was able to relax after being relieved by A watch at 0650. Later in the day, C watch’s hard work paid off when several pods of humpback whales were spotted breaching, spouting, and slapping their pectoral fins against the water in front of the ship! Now, as it approaches midnight, we hope for more sightings as we sail out of Cape Cod Bay.
