Knob Research & Work day

July 30, 2025
Today in Cottage A we had an excursion to Knob beach, worked on our oceanographic projects, and ate some delicious ice cream. Earlier in the day we gathered our needed materials and walked to Knob Beach, and we each split up into our oceanographic groups to conduct our research. Our ecological group used sifting materials to look deeper into the area’s rocks and sea floor. While our chemical group conducted research on the PH, mg per liter of ammonia, nitrate, and salinity of the water. As for the human impacts group, they went around the beach looking for trash and collected data on it. In the water, the biology group uses nets and quadrats to collect data on living organisms in the area. In the end we all helped each other out and everyone ended up learning about each aspect of oceanography.
Later in the day we had lunch and went to oceanographic class, where we all worked on our specific oceanographic projects. Each of us worked diligently, and by working together we continue to build good working relationships and studying skills. By the end of the day we headed to a beach to chill and hangout together. As the sun set, we headed off to the Silver Beach Creamery and we all got some delicious ice cream. Overall, it was a fulfilling day full of research, fun, and bonding.
