Today is 3 days ABB (after Bradley’s Birthday) and many of his faces have not survived the first major crew cleaning day onboard. On the bright side, the wind began to fill in after we bopped and drifted around at just a few knots in the early morning. C Watch woke up to the tops’l having been set for the first time on the journey, and as is their custom, struck it and set it again within a few hours of having the deck. By midmorning we found ourselves running (away) downwind from a squall that had followed us through the night – affectionately named mid-latitude squall Alfie (although we believe that this name is not recognized by the authorities over at NOAA). The wind and sea have continued to pick up throughout the day, carrying us East in nice force 4 conditions at the time of writing this. Squalls are developing and passing by; we’ve been watching beautiful clouds convecting until they tower high into the atmosphere, and the occasional flash of lightning timidly light up the horizon. All is well, and we’re looking forward to another beautiful evening of watches. Ciao for now!
Marisa, if you’re reading this, happy birthday! I hope it is wonderful
