Description of where we are sailing: From Vineyard haven, Martha’s Vineyard to Nantucket
We had our first night watch last night. For midrats we had brownies. In the morning we woke up and everyone helped us get under way, we motored for the first hour before setting sail. In total our trip from Vineyard Sound to Nantucket took six hours. During the day all three watches rotated on a two hour schedule. All the students got to practice the jobs that we will be tasked with when we set sail for the open ocean tomorrow. The weather fluctuated between sunny and rainy but we had good wind overall. After we anchored Jeff Schell gave us an orientation of how our academics will be scheduled on the ship. Following that, students not on watch were given time to do what they wanted, workout, read, watch the sunset, or nap. The plastic team saw a balloon floating in the water and for their research we deployed the small boat which they used to go and retrieve it, they successfully got it and returned back to the ship. For dinner we had pork fried rice and kale apple salad.
