Hello friends, family, Romans, countrymen, acquaintances, coworkers, strangers, ships, shipmates, and selves! Today on board the Robert C. Seamans we sailed (if you can believe it) as always ever closer to our final destination of the Fiji water bottling plant, or the country of Fiji, whichever is closer. However, not all is as it seems. Today is a very special day on board the Bobby C. A day where we give the ship thanks for all that she does for us. Today is “field day.” On field day we treat the Bobby C. to a deep clean from top to bottom and in return Robert C. keeps our buns reasonably dry and sailing in comfort.
The exact processes of field day vary by watch. A watch, for instance cleans the galley (or kitchen for you land-lubbers) along with all of the pots, pans, trays, and other various vittles and fiddles. It is a jolly day where the ship gets much cleaner, and we by the transitive property of equality get much dirtier. So it was a turn of great fortune then that after our day of fields we had a swim call. This is an event where we “park” the ship and everyone jumps into three mile deep water and swims around for a bit. Everyone has a great time and cools off while doing some sick jumps off the bowsprit. I would also like to say hello to my family back home in Ft. Lauderdale and let them know that I can’t wait to speak to them once I return to land. —Gabe Packer (Deckhand, A watch)Recent Posts from the Ships
