I looked around and it’s all blue so I don’t know where we are but…. What. Is. Going. on.

Apparently, I am on SEA Semester.

When I signed up for this program all I saw was mojitos and white sand beaches, scuba diving, a swimming pool. Then I show up and the first thing the captain says is that it’s a dry boat!

Get a load of this.

There’s 8 of us students, which apparently leaves more time for “bonding”, “hands on sail handling”, and “awesome science deployments/sample processing” whatever that means. Everyone keeps saying this is one of the coolest experiences of their lives, but I am just wondering why nobody seems to shower around here.

My bunk is about the exact height and width of me and being in the very front of the Focs’le (forward most cabin) I get some unexpected airtime every few minutes when we hit a wave (jokes aside it’s fun). The other day I was dumping the contents of a meter net tow into a bucket and a small shark fell out!! Then the tall guy came over and showed me that it glows in the dark. That part was okay. But again. Where’s my cucumber face mask? Instead of a sauna they said I could stand in the engine room while its running, the fumes are ruining my pores but it’s something.

Ok jokes aside were all having loads of fun and have lots of stories to tell when we get home. Everyone is safe and happy and tired but in the good kind of tired way.
