Today marks the thirtieth day since I left the comfort of my family, friends, and island home.  At the end of morning watch, I was blessed by the ocean and soaked from a ten foot wave.  In hindsight, it was the perfect moment to be out on deck looking for seabirds.

Today marks the day we are supposedly arriving in Vava’u Tonga. I am hoping the weather does not get worse and we are able to sail to Tonga within the next six hours. After being at sea in almost gale force winds, I am ready to walk on land and eat from a table that is not gimbled.

Today marks the end of my teenage years. Surprisingly, I can say this has been a busy, yet bittersweet birthday. My day started with a birthday wakeup at 0600 and a McDonald’s breakfast dupe. Since we are sailing through Beaufort Force 7 winds with lots of swells, I am currently wishing that I do not end up throwing up on the quarterdeck. Thank you to the stewards, crew, and friends who helped make chocolate lava cakes (my fav) for snack and made today extra special!

To sis: happy 20th birthday!! I promise I’ll be there to celebrate all our future ones together and I hope someone smashes cake in ur face. Love, Cait
