Today was the day of the OGC exam—our last day in Moʻorea before we head back to
Tahiti, where we’ll finally get to meet the SSV Robert C. Seamans. We began our day at 8:30am,
testing our knowledge on everything we crammed in our brains throughout the week. It was
tough, but we stayed positive. An hour later, we were free of responsibilities for the rest of the
day—sort of. There were still some assignments that we had to get done by the end of the day,
but besides that, we were free to do whatever we wanted—kayak, snorkel, explore, rest, read,
crochet. Some students ended up spending their “day off” relaxing in their rooms, catching up on
some MUCH needed sleep. Other students lounged outside in the sun, and in the afternoon, some
students got to the beach down the road. Most of my day was spent with one of our station dogs,
Tui, who kept me company everywhere I went.
Today was by far both the most and least eventful days of the trip to date. We spent the
night after dinner, packing up and preparing ourselves for the coming days at sea. Personally, I
spent my night anticipating our visit to the Market once we get to Tahiti after our early morning
ferry tomorrow. I can’t wait to see all the gorgeous Tahitian pearls and other jewelry offered by
vendors. To my family and friends back home, I love you all. I know it must be so boring without
me there, but I’ll see you all soon. Also, happy (early) 25th anniversary mom and dad! Miss you
guys and hope you enjoy your anniversary tomorrow! A hui hou!
