Our final day of preparations were well spent. The morning was dedicated to learning individual responsibilities during a variety emergency scenarios: Fire/Flooding, Man-Over-Board, and Abandon Ship. Though consideration of these events occurring at sea can be distressing, the knowledge that there is a plan and we have practiced our roles beforehand, fosters a peace of mind for all of us. We are reminded of the value of prevention and the importance of our hourly boat checks which are designed to catch any problems early before an emergency arises.
The afternoon was dedicated to more training in the lab with additional time spent setting and striking sails. At this point we are all ready to head out to sea. First thing tomorrow morning, during high slack tide, we will cast off the docklines and begin our adventure on the high seas!
Cheers
Jeff Schell, Chief Scientist
