Weather / Wind and Sail Plan: Beautiful skies with medium winds and plan on getting underway to long island tomorrow afternoon
Description of where we are sailing: We started the day at Provincetown and are currently anchored at Menemsha bight
Today was an extremely beautiful day. I got up at 6 am for B watch’s morning watch time (0700-1300). Our main priority today was to successfully get through the Cape Cod Canal before the currents worked against us so we spent the entire morning correcting our sails and keeping a good watch on the lobster pots that were in our way. Once we made it to the canal it was some pretty smooth motor sailing, it took us about an hour and a half to cross the canal and we went under several bridges and I got to see Mass Maritime once again (I was at a week long camp there in August). Once we made it through the canal we started heading to our destination, Menemsha Bight in Vineyard Sound, we got there at 15:00 and were fully anchored at 15:30 to get ready for class. Class today consisted of another MOB drill (Man Overboard drill) which we tackled swiftly. For the next portion of our class time we met with our project mentors. My group, Quinn, Olivia and I met with 2nd Marine Tech Nora to talk about our project methods for studying bioluminescence. We ended the day off with yet another lovely sunset on deck. A few shipmates got to see the sunset off of the deck by going aloft on the foremast for an incredible view.
