Soufriere Pinnacles

Hi Friends,

Wow what an amazing time Soufriere, in Dominica, has been! We have seen so many amazing fish. I have seen a lot of damselfish and blue tang and so many sponges and corals. This is the life! My favorite part is the surveys and doing the fish and invertebrate surveys. I get to still take photos of the fish and the reef I’m seeing which is awesome.  I feel like a kid on Christmas Day; I have caught myself saying that way too much.

Throughout this survey in Watch A, we have seen and experienced mishaps and strengths. We had some difficulty with surveys but feel we will do a lot better in Scotts Head. I saw an amazing barrel sponge and a feather duster while doing the survey that were beautiful. My friends here are also enjoying the surveys and have been doing duck dives throughout the surveys to get quadrat photos which are a picture of the reef in meter sections.

We have also been seeing so many rainbows throughout the trip reminding me of home and the family symbolism of them as well. Even though I have really been enjoying it in Dominica I am missing home. But I press on I am really enjoying the sailing and can’t wait for more. Tomorrow is a field trip to a coral restoration group called Oceans Forward.

Warmly,

Andrew, A Watch, UNH
