Update on Deployment of NOAA Drifter Buoys

Students aboard the SSV Robert C. Seamans have now deployed six NOAA buoys on the southwest-bound leg of their voyage to Hawaii. This is in an area of ocean that has less vessel traffic and thus fewer buoys, so the voyage of the Seamans presented a valuable opportunity for research. These drifting buoys contribute to the US Global Forecast System to better understand the ocean and atmosphere.
